Managing llms.txt in Fiidom AEO
llms.txt is a public file published at /llms.txt on your store. It gives AI assistants an AI-friendly index of your store's most important content, so they can quickly see what you offer before deciding what to explore further.
Think of it as your store's table of contents for AI. Unlike llms-full.txt, it doesn't contain the full content of your website. It holds short summaries and the URL of each resource. llms.txt helps AI discover your store, and llms-full.txt helps it understand your store in depth. Both use the same data sources and the same settings screen.
Open the llms.txt page
Go to Apps > Fiidom AEO > AI Discovery, open AI Files, and select the AI Index (llms.txt) tab. You can also click View details next to llms.txt in the Overview table.

File status
| Status | What it means |
|---|---|
| Synced | The file was processed successfully and is live. |
| Processing | Shopify is processing the file. Edit and Regenerate are turned off until it finishes. |
| Not synced | An error occurred, or processing took longer than 10 minutes. |
The status is checked when you open the page and refreshes automatically while you're on it.
Header actions
View live file
Opens the public llms.txt on your store. This is exactly what AI assistants read, so use it to confirm your changes are live.
Regenerate
Rebuilds llms.txt from:
- Your current store data
- The index sources you've enabled
- The fields you've selected
- The item limit for each source
Once you've generated or edited llms.txt in Fiidom, it doesn't update automatically when you add new products, collections, or other content. Click Regenerate whenever your store content changes so AI assistants see your latest catalog.
After you click Regenerate, a save bar appears. Save to apply the new version.
- If it succeeds, the status changes to Synced, and the file size, last updated time, and preview all refresh.
- If it fails, the status changes to Not synced and you'll see the message Unable to regenerate llms.txt. Please try again.
Edit
Opens the editor so you can change part of the file (see the next section).
Note: The original llms.txt that Shopify creates can't be edited. Until you regenerate, the Edit button is disabled. Hover over it to see Regenerate the file before editing. Once you've regenerated, the file uses Fiidom's template, and you can edit it.

Edit llms.txt
The editor splits the file into two areas:
- Editable area (top): everything before the auto-generated block, such as your store name and short description. You can change this text freely.
- Auto-generated area (bottom, marked read-only): everything from the system-generated block onward, including your policies, products, collections, and other indexed content. This part is built from your index sources, so you change it through Index sources settings, not by typing.
To edit:
- Click Edit.
- Change the text in the editable area.
- Click Save to keep your changes, or Discard to throw them away.
After saving, the editor returns to preview mode and shows the new status, such as Synced. While editing, you can also use View live file and Copy.

If the file is still processing after you save, editing is locked until it finishes. Hover over the editor to see why. If processing fails, or doesn't finish within 10 minutes, the status changes to Not synced and an error message appears on the page after you close the editor.
Reset to default
Once you've edited or regenerated llms.txt, a Reset to default button appears in the File Preview. It restores the original file Shopify created and removes your customizations. It isn't shown while you're still using Shopify's original file.
Choose what goes into llms.txt: Index sources
The Index sources panel controls which store content is included. Each source is a card that shows the fields you've selected and its status. Click a card to open its settings.

| Collections | Enabled / Disabled | Enabled |
| Blog posts | Enabled / Disabled | Enabled when your store has at least one published article |
| Pages | Enabled / Disabled | Enabled |

Source settings
Each source's settings window has the same structure:
- Status: turn the source on (Activated) or off (Deactivated). For example, "Include Products in file".
- Fields: the details included for each item. You can remove fields, but at least one must stay selected. You'll see an error and can't save if none are left.
- Filter (optional): include only items that match. Leave filters empty to include all active, published items.
- Item limit: how many items to include. Items are sorted by most recently created.
Click Save changes to apply your settings, then Regenerate the file so it reflects them.

How your content appears in llms.txt
Fiidom writes llms.txt as clean, plain text that AI assistants can read easily. It's published at /llms.txt in UTF-8, with no HTML or code blocks.
What's included, and what isn't
- Only the fields you select are added. Fields with no data are skipped, so there are no empty lines.
- Unpublished products, pages, and blog posts are never included.
- Passwords, private data, and customer data are never included.
- Any HTML in your content is converted to plain text.
- All links are full URLs, and prices use your store's currency.
SEO description
For every content type, Fiidom uses the first one available:
- The SEO meta description
- The excerpt or short description
- The first 160 characters of the content
If none of these exist, the line is left out. Fiidom never writes its own SEO description.

Tips for a strong llms.txt
- Regenerate after store changes. New products and collections aren't added until you click Regenerate.
- Keep it a summary. llms.txt works best as a short index. Use item limits and filters to focus on your most important content, and leave the full detail to llms-full.txt.
- Add SEO fields if you can. SEO titles and descriptions help AI understand each item at a glance.
- Check the live file. After saving or regenerating, click View live file to confirm your changes are published.
